This fellowship supports an emerging artist for an Associate level membership at the Washington Printmakers Gallery for a period of one year. This includes all gallery dues, exhibition opportunities, and working with the many experienced artists running a cooperative gallery.

Artists who practice traditional and non-traditional printmaking and photography are encouraged to consider applying for this fellowship. Photographers, digital printmakers, 3-D printmakers, book artists, artists mixing methods such as sculpture, painting, and drawing with photography and printmaking are also welcomed to apply.

Objectives

To give an opportunity for an emerging artist to participate in a cooperative gallery founded in 1985 and has continuously provided a premier venue for printmaking and photography in Washington, DC. This fellowship will provide funding, mentorship, and a showcase for an artist to further their career in the visual arts. The Fellow will also receive training in all aspects of running a gallery and gallery related tasks. The benefits of an Associate Member includes:

-Gallery representation in Washington, DC

-Participate in monthly member show four times a year and inclusion in the Associate Member exhibit once a year.

-15 matted works in Bins and Flat files.

-Artist page on website with images, statement, and bio

-60% proceeds of work sold

-Gallery supported advertising and press releases

-Opportunity for review of Washington critics

-Opportunity to add local collectors to mailing list

-Opportunity for solo events, demos, or classes

-Full voting on governance and directions

Membership responsibilities include staffing the gallery 1 day per month, perform one regular task, attend monthly meetings (zoom or in person), have professionally presented work to be exhibited and updated on website and bins, cooperate with other artists to promote excellence and artistic growth.

Eligibility

Artists that have not had gallery representation and are out of school are welcome to apply. Students enrolled in an arts-related program are not eligible. The artist’s practice must include printmaking, photography, digital media, or book arts. The fellow must be able to commit to the one-year term and perform the Associate member gallery responsibilities.

-Resume with past artistic accomplishments

-A works list, digital submission of 10 corresponding images including title, media, size, year

 

review process

The Washington Print Foundation fellowship committee will review all candidates for required application documents and images. The committee will rate artistic quality/merit and then the applicants will be notified of their decision. The Fellow selection will be conditional to gallery standards upon arrival and signed membership agreement.
